Examples of Project Work...

On our own account, or as members of teams, we have worked on projects including:

Effluent and Reclaimed Water Re-use
Scholefield Robinson has participated in both large and small projects leading to the re-use of reclaimed water for horticulture and viticulture. In these studies we have helped assess the impact of water quality on plant growth, nutrient loadings in relation to crop sustainability and quality and suitable approaches to required changes in water quality. We have also helped assess land suitability for re-use projects.

Regional Development Planning
Scholefield Robinson has looked at crop suitability (bulb growing in the Adelaide Hills), demand for water (Clare, McLaren Vale and Barossa) and horticultural options.

Rehabilitation of Government Irrigation Areas
In the last ten years the whole face of irrigation along the Murray River has changed. We have helped set the scene for rehabilitation and self management, for improved irrigation distribution (on farm and off) and the development of new areas with the water saved by these changes. We have also helped review the success of such projects.

Strategic Planning
SRHS has provided inputs to a wide range of strategic planning exercises:

  • Export inspection and fruit fly disinfestation.

  • Development of horticulture in the Northern Territory.

  • Feasibility of hydroponic greenhouse production for export.

  • Vegetable Industry Development - Nationally

  • Cherry Industry Development - South Australia

Specific Projects for R&D Corporations and other agencies include:

  • Survey of producers in the citrus, apple and pear, potato and grains industries to determine the level of on-farm surveillance for pests and diseases.  This survey was part of a larger Plant Health Australia project to develop comprehensive surveillance programs for industry biosecurity.

  • Development of Surveillance Strategies for high priority pests identified as part of industry biosecurity planning for Plant Health Australia.  This involved the development of a generic strategy, and the use of this in a number of specific industries.

  • A collaborative project to develop a business case for the establishment of the South Australian Murray Darling Basin Resource Information Centre (SAMRIC).

  • Business Plan for Vine Improvement, for the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation.
